Everyone sees the same Egypt. The difference is when, and who you see it with.

Nobody comes home from Egypt saying the Pyramids were smaller than expected. What people actually remember, or regret, is the shape of the day around them — the hour they arrived, the queue they did or didn’t stand in, and whether anyone could answer the question they asked at breakfast.

That is where a luxury Egypt trip earns its name. Not in marble lobbies, though there are plenty of those. In access and in pacing: standing in a tomb before the coaches reach the car park, having a guide who is yours alone for the day, and knowing that when a flight moves, somebody in Egypt already knows about it.

We’re Egypt Luxury Trips. We plan private journeys for travellers flying in from the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and across Europe — couples, families, honeymooners, small groups of friends, and a lot of people finally taking the trip they’ve been circling for twenty years.

Anyone can put you in front of the Pyramids. The luxury is arriving while the light is still soft and the site is still quiet.

Across every itinerary we build, four things stay constant:

  • Your own guide and vehicle. Your party only. No coach, no headset, no waiting for a stranger who wandered off in Karnak.
  • Days built around light and heat. Sites early, the middle of the day somewhere cool, temples again when the stone turns gold.
  • One team, start to finish. From airport arrival to departure, the same people are responsible for you — including the parts nobody photographs, like the domestic flight and the transfer at 5am.
  • Answers in writing. Every inclusion and exclusion listed plainly for your dates. Nothing held that we cannot confirm.

If you already know roughly what you want, jump to what to send us. If you’d rather understand how these trips are put together first, the rest of this page is for you — and you can browse the full range on our luxury Egypt tours and best luxury Egypt tours pages whenever you like.

The route

What a luxury Egypt itinerary looks like when it’s built properly.

Egypt has one enormous advantage as a destination: the good bits are arranged in a line. Almost every well-planned trip follows the same geography from north to south, and the skill is deciding how long to linger at each stage rather than inventing a clever new order.

Cairo and Giza — the loud, magnificent opening

Pyramids, Sphinx, and the vast collections that explain them. Most travellers give this two or three days: the Giza plateau on one, the museums on another, and older Egypt at Saqqara and Dahshur if you have the appetite. Start with Cairo, and see how we handle the plateau on our luxury holiday to the Pyramids page.

The flight south — the hour that buys back a day

Cairo to Luxor is a long way. The domestic flight compresses it into breakfast-to-mid-morning, and on a short trip that single decision is worth more than any upgrade you could buy. When days are painfully tight, some travellers even do the whole thing as a day trip from Cairo to Luxor by flight — though we’d rather give the south more room than that.

The river — three or four nights that do the travelling for you

South of Luxor the Nile runs past Esna, Edfu and Kom Ombo. Sail it and your hotel moves while you sleep, which is the single most civilised idea in Egyptian travel. Read the full breakdown on our Nile cruise Luxor to Aswan page, or browse every sailing under Nile cruises.

Aswan and Abu Simbel — the south, slower and stranger

Granite islands, feluccas, Philae reached by little boat, and Nubian villages painted in colours the rest of Egypt doesn’t use. Abu Simbel sits further south again, and finishing your cruise in Aswan is what makes adding it easy rather than exhausting.

So how many days do you actually need?

This is the question that decides everything else, and the honest answer is that Egypt punishes over-packing more than it punishes missing something. Here is how the common trip lengths tend to behave in practice.

Trip length and what it comfortably holds
Days in Egypt What fits without rushing Best suited to
6 to 7 days Cairo and Giza, then Luxor and Aswan with a shorter sailing between them. First-timers on limited leave who want the headline sites done well rather than everything done fast.
8 to 9 days The same spine with a longer cruise and room for Abu Simbel, or a proper second day in Luxor. Most couples and honeymooners. This is the length that stops feeling like a schedule.
10 to 12 days Cairo in depth, both Luxor banks, the full river, Abu Simbel, and a few days on the Red Sea to finish. Families, multi-generational groups, and anyone who wants a holiday inside their trip.
14 days and up Everything above, plus the sites most itineraries drop — Dendera and Abydos, Esna, the quieter Luxor tombs. Return visitors and history-minded travellers who’ve already ticked the famous list.

Not sure where you land? Send the number of days you have, including arrival and departure, and we’ll tell you what genuinely fits. We would much rather recommend a shorter route done properly than sell you a longer one you’ll spend in transit. You can also compare our published shapes on the luxury Egypt tour packages and luxury Egypt travel packages pages.

The building blocks

Six private experiences most luxury Egypt trips are built from.

These are the days that do the heavy lifting — one for each stage of the route above. Every one of them is private, and every one can be slotted into a longer tailor-made itinerary rather than booked as an island on its own.

The full list lives on our tours page.

On the water

Luxury Nile cruise or dahabiya? It depends what you want your evenings to sound like.

This is the decision travellers agonise over most, and the one where the wrong choice does the least damage. Both sail the same river past the same temples. What changes is the volume.

A luxury Nile cruise ship is the larger vessel most people picture: several decks, a fixed sailing schedule between Luxor and Aswan, and the dependable machinery of a small floating hotel. It keeps time. When your trip is stitched to international flights, that reliability is worth real money.

A dahabiya is the small traditional sailing boat, carrying far fewer guests, moving partly with the wind, mooring in places the big ships glide past. Quieter, closer to the water, and unmistakably more intimate — at the cost of a little predictability.

What you won’t find on this page is a fleet list with cabin photographs. Vessels and on-board arrangements move with the sailing date, so we confirm them for your journey when you enquire instead of describing a boat you may never board. Less impressive to read. Considerably more accurate.

Sailing direction matters too, and it should be decided by your flights rather than by romance. Finishing in Aswan puts you next door to Abu Simbel; finishing in Luxor suits travellers heading back north to Cairo. We’ve written the whole comparison out on the Nile cruise Luxor to Aswan page, and the shorter northbound option is the 3-night cruise from Aswan to Luxor.

Timing

The best time of year for a luxury trip to Egypt.

Upper Egypt is desert. So the useful version of this question isn’t which month is best — it’s how much heat you’re willing to trade for how much quiet, and whether your days can be built around the cool hours. On a private schedule, they can.

Season by season on a luxury Egypt itinerary
When What it feels like Worth knowing
October to April The comfortable window. Warm days, cool evenings, sightseeing at civilised hours. Also the busiest. Cabins, balloon flights and the better rooms go first — enquire well ahead.
December and January Coolest of the year, with bright days and genuinely cold mornings on the water. Peak season for Christmas and New Year travel. Pack a real layer; deck breakfasts in January are brisk.
September and May Shoulder months. Hotter, but noticeably fewer people inside the temples. Our quiet favourite if you don’t mind a 6am start in exchange for having Karnak nearly to yourself.
June to August Serious summer heat, especially around Aswan and Abu Simbel. Entirely workable privately: sites at dawn, the middle of the day indoors or on the water, temples again at dusk.

One more thing the weather chart won’t tell you: sunrise and late afternoon flatter these sites in every month of the year. Whether your trip gets those hours has almost nothing to do with the season and everything to do with whether your day belongs to you or to a coach timetable. Tell us your travel window and we’ll tell you plainly what to expect in it — including where the crowds will be and which mornings we’d start early.

Who we plan for

The same country, paced six different ways.

A private trip flexes in the only way that matters: the route stays broadly the same, but the length of the days, the order of them, and the amount of nothing in between change completely depending on who is travelling.

Honeymooners

Spectacle and stillness in alternating doses — a temple after dark, then an afternoon whose only decision is which side of the deck has the better shade. See our luxury honeymoon packages in Egypt.

Families

Children handle the river far better than the road. Boats are entertainment in themselves, and a private day can be cut short the moment someone has had enough of tombs — which happens, and is fine.

First-time visitors

If this is your first Egypt trip, you shouldn’t be spending it solving logistics. We take the transfers, flights and tickets off your plate so the only thing you’re deciding is what time to be downstairs.

History-minded travellers

Ask for depth and you’ll get it: quieter tombs, longer at Karnak, and a guide who is happy to keep going long after the standard commentary would have stopped.

Small groups of friends

Egypt rewards travelling four to eight deep. The cost of a private guide and vehicle is shared across the group while the touring itself stays entirely yours.

Travelling with parents

Heat, steps and uneven ground are the real constraints here, not distance. Flag pace or mobility in your enquiry and we’ll design the days around it rather than improvise on the morning.

Where you’ll actually be

Three very different Egypts, in one trip.

Part of what makes this country such a good luxury destination is that it changes character every few hundred miles. You can go from a city of twenty million to a silent desert cliff face to a coral reef inside a single itinerary.

Cairo and Giza

Enormous, noisy, layered, and completely worth the first two days of your trip. The Pyramids are on the edge of the city rather than out in an empty desert, which surprises everybody, and the museums nearby now hold the objects that make sense of them.

Beyond Giza there’s Saqqara’s stepped pyramid, the older experiments at Dahshur, and the medieval and Coptic quarters that most itineraries skip entirely. Start with our Cairo destination guide, or go straight to Dahshur, Saqqara and the Giza Pyramids.

Luxor and Aswan

Luxor holds more standing ancient architecture than anywhere else on earth, and it holds it in a working town where people still farm the same fields. Cross to the west bank and the noise stops: cliffs, tombs, and a silence that catches people off guard.

Aswan, further south, is where the pace finally breaks. The river widens, islands appear, and afternoons stop having a plan. Browse Luxor and Aswan, or see how the two connect on our Luxor to Aswan day tour when a sailing doesn’t fit the dates.

The Red Sea coast

Egypt’s second act, and the reason so many trips end well rather than merely finish. After a week of early starts and 4,000-year-old stone, a few days of reef, warm water and absolutely no schedule is not an indulgence — it’s good trip design.

It also solves a practical problem: long-haul flights home are easier after two days of rest than after a 5am tomb visit. Have a look at Hurghada and the Red Sea, and at how we combine both halves on the Pyramids and Red Sea itinerary. If you’re arriving by ship instead, we also run Safaga to Luxor shore excursions.

Straight answers

What a luxury Egypt trip costs — and why there’s no number on this page.

Because one figure printed on a web page is either fiction or a footnote. We would rather quote your journey than decorate ours.

The price moves with real things. Your dates, how many of you there are, how many days you have, whether the river takes three nights or four, which vessel and rooms are available that week, and what you attach at each end. Publish a single number and it misleads somebody. So we quote per trip, for the itinerary you actually want.

Inclusions are itemised, never assumed. Meals, entrance fees, transfers, guiding and domestic flights are confirmed for your package in writing, each one listed as either included or excluded. No vague middle ground and no “typically includes”.

International airfare stays with you. Long-haul flights from the USA, UK, Canada, Australia or Europe are almost always better arranged at your end. Everything inside Egypt is ours to organise.

Nothing is held that we can’t confirm. Arrangements are checked for your dates before you commit to anything. When something isn’t available we say so and offer the honest alternative, even when the honest alternative is a smaller trip.

Your travel window

Firm dates if you have them, or the month you’re circling. Tell us how flexible it is — in high season, flexibility is worth money.

How many days you really have

Counting the arrival and departure days honestly. Half of good planning is refusing to pretend a travel day is a sightseeing day.

Who’s coming

Numbers, ages if children are travelling, and anything about pace, mobility or dietary needs we should design around rather than improvise on.

The two or three things you’d hate to miss

Abu Simbel, the balloon at dawn, a temple after dark, the Red Sea, or one morning with nothing in it at all. Name them and we’ll protect them in the plan.

Before you enquire

Luxury Egypt trips: your questions, answered.

What is included in a luxury Egypt trip package?

Rather than assume a standard bundle, we itemise it. When we send your written proposal, each element — accommodation, meals, entrance fees, transfers, guiding and internal flights — is listed either as included or as excluded for your specific itinerary. Long-haul international flights are normally arranged at your end. If a particular item matters to how you’re budgeting, say so in your enquiry and we’ll confirm it before you commit to anything.

What is the best time of year for a luxury trip to Egypt?

October to April is the comfortable window and also the busiest, with warm days and cool evenings. December and January are the coolest, and the peak period for Christmas and New Year travel. September and May are the shoulder months — hotter, but with noticeably fewer people at the temples. June to August brings serious heat in Upper Egypt, which private travel handles well by putting sites at dawn and the middle of the day somewhere cool.

How much does a luxury Egypt tour cost per person?

We quote per journey rather than publishing a per-person average, because the figure genuinely moves with your dates, party size, trip length, the vessel and rooms available that week, and what you add at each end. Send your dates and party size and you’ll get a real number for the trip you actually want, rather than a headline price with conditions underneath it.

Are luxury Egypt tours private or small group?

The touring is private: your party, your guide and your vehicle at each stop, rather than being attached to a coach group. On a Nile cruise the vessel itself is shared in the usual way, but your guiding ashore stays private. If you’re travelling as a small group of friends or an extended family, the whole trip simply becomes your group and nobody else.

Which are the best luxury hotels in Cairo, Luxor and Aswan?

We don’t publish a fixed hotel list, and we’d be sceptical of any operator who does — availability, standards and rates all move by date and season. What we do is propose specific properties for your specific dates, explain why each one suits your route, and confirm the booking in writing before anything is paid. Tell us whether you value location, quiet, a pool or river views most, and we’ll shortlist accordingly.

What is the difference between a luxury Nile cruise and a Dahabiya cruise?

A Nile cruise ship is the larger, multi-deck vessel running set sailings between Luxor and Aswan, with the predictability of a small floating hotel. A dahabiya is a small traditional sailing boat carrying far fewer guests, quieter and closer to the water, moving partly with the wind. Ships suit tight schedules, families and first visits; dahabiyas suit couples, honeymooners and anyone whose main goal is stillness.

Can a luxury Egypt itinerary include the Red Sea?

Yes, and it’s one of the most common ways to finish. A few days on the Red Sea coast after a week of early starts turns a demanding itinerary into a proper holiday, and makes the long flight home considerably more pleasant. See our Hurghada and Red Sea destination page, or the combined Pyramids and Red Sea itinerary. If you have something else in mind for the desert side of the trip, tell us in your enquiry and we’ll confirm what we can arrange for your dates.

Do luxury Egypt tours include private guides?

Yes — private guiding is the part we consider non-negotiable, because it’s what separates seeing a site from understanding one. Your guide is with your party only, and the tone is yours to set: some travellers want a full historical account, others want the short version and more time to wander. If you have a particular interest or a language requirement, mention it and we’ll confirm what we can arrange for your dates.

Is it easy to travel around Egypt on a luxury tour?

On a private trip, yes — mostly because the difficult parts are handled before you arrive. Internal flights, transfers, tickets, timings and the gaps between sites are all arranged and confirmed in advance, and you have one team responsible for the whole journey rather than a different supplier in each city. What’s left for you is deciding what time to be downstairs.

How many days are ideal for a luxury Egypt vacation?

Eight to nine days is the length at which a trip stops feeling like a schedule: Cairo, Luxor, the river and Aswan, with room for Abu Simbel. Six to seven still covers the headline sites if you accept a faster pace. Ten to twelve adds real depth in Cairo plus a few days on the coast, and fourteen or more lets you reach the temples most itineraries drop. Send us your total number of days and we’ll tell you what genuinely fits.

Can you arrange a luxury Egypt trip for a honeymoon or a special occasion?

Frequently. Honeymoons are one of the most common reasons people write to us, and the planning changes accordingly — quieter boats, later starts, more space between the sightseeing days. Our luxury honeymoon packages page is a good starting point, and anything you want marked in the trip should be mentioned in the enquiry so it’s built in rather than improvised.

How far in advance should I book a luxury Egypt trip?

Earlier is better, particularly between October and April, and especially for cruise cabins and Luxor balloon flights. Get in touch as soon as your dates firm up, even if they might still move. We’d rather tell you what’s realistically available for your week than hold something we can’t confirm.

Can I book if I’m travelling from the USA, UK, Canada or Australia?

Yes — most of the travellers we plan for are flying in from exactly those places. You arrange the long-haul flights, which are almost always cheaper and more flexible booked at your end. Everything inside Egypt, including the internal legs between Cairo, Luxor and Aswan, is ours to organise and confirm in writing.

Next step

Send us your dates. We’ll send back a trip.

Fill in the enquiry form with your travel window, how many days you have, who’s travelling and the two or three things you’d hate to miss. We’ll come back with a route for those dates, what each day involves, what’s included and what isn’t, and what we’d honestly recommend for the time you’ve actually got. No deposit to ask a question, and no pressure afterwards.
