Where the money goes

Luxury travel in Egypt is measured in hours, not stars.

Ask travellers what they remember about Egypt and almost nobody starts with the room. They start with a moment, and every single one of those moments has a time stamp attached to it.

The tomb they had to themselves for four minutes. The temple courtyard at the hour when the stone goes orange. The morning they cancelled everything and sat on a boat instead. None of that comes from a brochure tier. It comes from being able to decide when you arrive, how long you stay and what happens next — which is exactly what a private trip gives you and a fixed departure never can.

The Valley of the Kings at seven in the morning and the Valley of the Kings at noon are not the same place. Same tombs. Different trip.

That’s the whole philosophy behind how we build at Egypt Luxury Trips. We can’t improve on the monuments; they’ve had four and a half thousand years of a head start. What we can do is arrange the day around them properly.

Everything you’ll see on this page is assembled from private tours and Nile cruises we actually publish and operate across Cairo, Giza, Luxor, Aswan, Abu Simbel and the river in between. There is no imaginary itinerary here. Your luxury Egypt vacation package is simply the combination of those programmes that fits your dates, your energy and the things you’d genuinely be sad to miss.

Three questions decide the shape of it before anything else:

  • How many days do you really have? Not counting the two you’ll lose to long-haul flying.
  • Which direction should the Nile run? We sail Luxor to Aswan and Aswan to Luxor, and that choice reorganises everything around it.
  • What’s the one thing that would make the trip? A dawn balloon, a temple after dark, a very slow afternoon. Tell us and we’ll protect it.

Answer those in the enquiry form and you’ll get a written route back — not a sales call, not a countdown timer.

The process

How a tailor-made Egypt tour actually gets made.

“Bespoke” gets used loosely in this industry. Here it means something specific: every tour we publish is a standalone private programme, so the order, the length and the contents can all move without the trip falling apart. This is the sequence from your first message to a confirmed route.

You send the raw facts

Travel dates or a rough window, how many days you can give Egypt, how many of you there are, and which tours on this page caught your attention. Two lines is plenty to start.

We test it against the map

Egypt is longer than it photographs. Cairo to Aswan is a serious distance, so we work out where flying saves you a day, where the Nile does the moving for you, and which direction the cruise should run given how your trip starts and ends.

You get it back in writing

A day-by-day route with what each day involves, which components are confirmed, and which depend on availability for your dates. Where something isn’t settled yet, we say so rather than smoothing over it.

You push back

Most people do, and the draft is built to take it. Swap Abu Simbel from road to flight. Drop a temple and add a morning with nothing in it. Stretch Luxor by a day because you’ve realised one isn’t enough. It usually isn’t.

Everything is confirmed before you commit

Inclusions, exclusions, cruise arrangements and accommodation are confirmed for your specific journey — in writing, in advance. You decide afterwards, not under pressure.

Building blocks

Three private tours, three completely different hours.

A good luxury Egypt itinerary isn’t a longer list of sites — it’s a better-timed one. These three published programmes show what we mean, and there are around thirty more behind them, all listed further down this page.

The river

Luxury Nile cruise Egypt: pick a direction first.

Travellers usually ask which cruise is better. The more useful question is which way your trip is already pointing, because that answers it for you.

We operate two sailings between Luxor and Aswan, in opposite directions. The 4-night Nile cruise runs south from Luxor to Aswan. The 3-night Nile cruise runs north from Aswan to Luxor. Same river, same stretch of temples, different rhythm and a different city to wake up in on the last morning.

Whichever you choose, the practical case is the same and it’s stronger than it sounds on paper: you unpack once. No second hotel check-in, no repacking in the dark, no early transfer to catch a train between cities. The scenery does the travelling. For couples, and for anyone bringing parents along, that one detail tends to settle the whole itinerary.

And if the dates simply don’t allow a cruise, the same ground is reachable by road — the Edfu and Kom Ombo temples from Luxor, or a full day tour from Luxor to Aswan. They’re long days and we’ll say so plainly rather than sell them as equivalent.

Vessel, cabin arrangements and what’s included on board are confirmed at enquiry, because they move with the sailing date. We’d rather send you something accurate than something impressive.

The collection

Cairo, Luxor, Aswan — and everything worth adding.

Every tour below is published, private and available as a component of your package. Where a detail isn’t listed on the tour page, we don’t guess at it here; ask us and we’ll confirm it in writing.

Cairo and Giza: the opening act, and the one people underestimate

Most luxury Egypt tours begin here for a simple reason — the density. The Great Pyramid, the Sphinx, the museums and the older Islamic and Coptic quarters sit within an hour of each other, so a well-built Cairo leg delivers an enormous amount before you take a single internal flight.

Our honest advice, though: give Cairo one more day than you think it needs, and spend it south of Giza. Saqqara and Dahshur are where pyramid-building was invented and then perfected, and they’re usually quiet. Standing at the Bent Pyramid with nobody nearby is a very different feeling from the Giza plateau at eleven in the morning, and it’s the sort of contrast that makes a trip.

If you’d rather see the plateau from a saddle than a car park, we also publish a camel ride at the Giza Pyramids and a quad bike tour out on the desert edge. Both are short. Both end up in the photo album.

Luxor: where one day is never enough

Luxor is the reason people extend their trips. The temple density is close to unreasonable, and it’s split across two banks — Karnak and Luxor Temple on the living East Bank, and the West Bank of royal tombs, mortuary temples and the workers’ village that built them. You can cover the headlines in a single full day across both banks. You can also spend four days here and leave with a list.

One genuinely useful piece of scheduling advice: if you’re taking the hot air balloon ride, keep the rest of that morning empty. It lifts off before the light does. Afterwards you’ll want breakfast and a shower, not a temple.

Second-time visitors should look at the sites everyone else skips. Dendera and Abydos are among the best-preserved temple complexes in the country — you can read more about them on our Dendera and Abydos guide — and Esna and El Kab barely appear on standard itineraries at all. If you’ve done Egypt once, that’s where we’d send you next.

Aswan and Abu Simbel: the trip changes gear

Something happens in Aswan. The river widens, granite islands split the current, and the pace drops without anyone deciding it should. Travellers who arrive here on day seven of a busy itinerary tend to look visibly relieved.

The classic day is Philae Temple, the High Dam and the Unfinished Obelisk, which fits comfortably into one private programme. Add an afternoon out to a Nubian village by motorboat for colour and community rather than more archaeology, or cross to the quiet bank for St Simeon Monastery and the Tombs of the Nobles.

Is Abu Simbel worth it? Yes — two colossal rock-cut temples that were cut apart and lifted to higher ground in the 1960s when the lake rose behind the dam. We run it by flight from Aswan when your days are tight, and privately by road when you’d rather see the desert and keep the timing loose. Which one suits you depends entirely on how the rest of the trip is built, and that’s a conversation, not a checkbox.

Coming ashore at Safaga?

For cruise passengers docking on the Red Sea coast we run two shore programmes — a Safaga to Luxor day trip that gets you back within port hours, and a 2-day Safaga to Luxor tour for a fuller programme with an overnight. Send us your ship’s schedule and we’ll tell you honestly which one your port call allows.

Honeymoons, families, small groups and travellers who don’t rush

Egypt luxury honeymoon. Egypt is a quietly excellent honeymoon, mostly because it alternates between spectacle and stillness. A balloon before sunrise, a temple at night, then two days on the river where the biggest decision is which side of the deck has the better shade. We publish a dedicated luxury honeymoon collection, and we’re happy to build a route specifically around a couple’s first trip together.

Egypt luxury family tours. Children tend to like Egypt more than their parents expect — the material is unbeatable. Camels, quad bikes, a motorboat to a Nubian village, tombs that look exactly like the pictures in the book at home. The craft is in pacing rather than content: fewer sites per day, more variety, and a private schedule you can cut short the moment someone has had enough.

Travelling with parents, or with mobility in mind. The honest constraints in Egypt are heat, steps and uneven ground. Private travel absorbs most of that, because your vehicle waits where you left it and the day ends when you say it does. Mention it in your enquiry and we’ll pick sites and timings around it instead of promising everything and improvising on the day.

Small groups of friends and extended family. This works well here. The cost of a private guide and vehicle is shared across the group while the experience stays entirely your own. Give us the numbers and we’ll shape the route accordingly.

Trip length

How many days does Egypt actually need?

More than most people book. The country is bigger than it looks from a map on a laptop, and the difference between an eight-day trip and an eleven-day one isn’t three more temples — it’s breathing room. Here’s what each length realistically buys, and what it costs you.

What fits, and what gets left behind
Trip length What fits comfortably What you give up
4–5 daysCairo and Giza properly, or Luxor properlyDoing both without spending the trip in transit
6–8 daysCairo and Giza, then Luxor and Aswan linked by the 3-night cruiseAbu Simbel, and most of the quieter West Bank
9–11 daysThe same route with the 4-night cruise, plus Abu Simbel and West Bank extrasDendera, Abydos, Esna and El Kab
12–15 daysAll of the above, the overlooked temples, and days with nothing scheduled at allVery little — this is the version people wish they’d booked

Look at what actually changes down that right-hand column. The longer itineraries don’t just add sites; they add space between them. A morning with nothing in it. An afternoon back at the hotel while the sun does its worst. An extra hour at Karnak because you weren’t finished. That space is the real difference between a luxury Egypt holiday and an efficient one — and it’s always the first casualty when a trip gets squeezed.

Torn between two lengths? Send us both. We’ll tell you plainly what the extra days buy and whether they’re worth it for the route you have in mind.

Standard on every journey

Six moments where private travel decides the day.

Every tour in our collection runs privately — your party, your guide, your vehicle. That sounds like a line from every travel website ever written, so here’s what it actually looks like in practice.

The arrivals hall

Somebody is already there when you walk out, and the car leaves when your group is ready — not when the last seat on a coach is filled.

One o’clock in Luxor

You can go back to the hotel, wait out the heat and return at four when the light turns. A fixed group schedule can’t do that. Yours can.

The tomb queue

Four people in a Valley of the Kings tomb is a completely different experience from twenty-four. Private touring lets your guide time the entrances.

The museum split

One of you wants ninety minutes and the other wants three hours. On a private tour that’s a preference. On a group tour it’s an argument.

The morning it all changes

A late night, a sandstorm, a change of heart. We adjust the day rather than apologise for it and move on.

The rebuild

Because every tour is a self-contained programme, we can reorder, swap or shorten components without the rest of your itinerary collapsing.

Straight answers

Four things you won’t find on this page.

We’d rather be accurate than impressive. Here’s what we deliberately don’t publish, and why.

A headline price. The number moves with your dates, your group size, how long you travel, which tours you pick and what’s available on the river. Printing one figure here would either mislead you or mean nothing at all. We quote your trip instead.

A blanket inclusions list. Meals, entrance fees, transfers and domestic flights are confirmed for your package, not assumed across every package. You get the itemised version in writing.

International airfare. Long-haul flights from the USA, UK, Canada, Australia or Europe are usually better arranged by you. Everything inside Egypt is ours to handle.

Guesses about your trip. Cruise arrangements and accommodation are confirmed for your specific journey, in advance, before you commit to anything.

What to put in the enquiry form

Your travel dates or the window you’re considering, and how firm they are.

How long you can travel

Total days on the ground, ideally excluding the long-haul flights either side.

Who’s coming

Numbers, ages if you’re travelling with children, and anything about pace or mobility we should build around.

The tours that caught your eye

Names are enough. If a Nile cruise is on the list, tell us where your trip needs to start and finish and we’ll pick the direction.

Before you enquire

Luxury travel in Egypt: your questions, answered.

What is included in a luxury Egypt travel package?

It follows the components you choose. Our packages are assembled from the private tours and Nile cruises listed on this page, so the inclusions depend on which of them end up in your route. The exact inclusions and exclusions are confirmed in writing when you enquire, before anything is committed.

How much does a luxury trip to Egypt cost?

We quote per trip rather than publishing a fixed price, because dates, group size, trip length and cruise choice all move the figure. Send us your dates and party size and we’ll come back with a number for the itinerary you actually want, not a generic one.

What is the best time of year for luxury travel in Egypt?

Egypt works year-round, and the practical answer depends on your heat tolerance and the dates you can travel. Tell us the window you’re considering and we’ll tell you honestly what to expect then, including how it shapes the timing of outdoor sites.

Are luxury Egypt tours private or small-group tours?

Private. Every tour we publish runs for your party only, with your own guide and vehicle. If you’re travelling as a group of friends or extended family it stays private — the cost of the guide and vehicle is simply shared between you.

Which cities should be included in a luxury Egypt itinerary?

Cairo and Giza first, then Luxor and Aswan, with Abu Simbel added when the schedule allows. That’s where our full collection of private tours sits, and it’s the route that returns the most for each day you spend.

How many days are ideal for a luxury Egypt vacation?

Nine to eleven days covers Cairo, Luxor, Aswan and a Nile cruise without rushing. Twelve to fifteen adds the quieter temples and days with nothing scheduled. Six to eight works well with the 3-night cruise. Four to five means choosing between Cairo and Luxor rather than doing both.

Is a luxury Nile cruise worth adding to an Egypt itinerary?

For most travellers, yes — mainly because you unpack once. The boat moves between Luxor and Aswan while you’re on it, which removes a hotel change, a repack and a long transfer from the middle of your trip.

What is the difference between a Nile cruise and a dahabiya cruise?

A Nile cruise ship is a larger vessel running set sailings between Luxor and Aswan, while a dahabiya is a small traditional sailing boat carrying far fewer guests. The sailings we publish are the 4-night Luxor to Aswan cruise and the 3-night Aswan to Luxor cruise.

Which luxury Nile cruises operate between Luxor and Aswan?

We operate two: a 4-night cruise sailing south from Luxor to Aswan, and a 3-night cruise sailing north from Aswan to Luxor. Vessel and cabin specifics are confirmed by sailing date at the point of enquiry.

Do luxury Egypt tours include a private Egyptologist guide?

Guiding arrangements are confirmed per package. If having an Egyptologist matters to you — and at Giza, Karnak and the Valley of the Kings it makes a real difference — say so in your enquiry and we’ll confirm it in writing before you commit.

Do luxury Egypt packages include domestic flights between Cairo, Luxor and Aswan?

We run flight-based programmes, including a day trip from Cairo to Luxor by flight and Abu Simbel by flight from Aswan. Which flight sectors sit inside your package is confirmed when we quote, along with exactly what each covers.

What five-star hotels are best for a luxury stay in Cairo?

We don’t publish a fixed hotel list on this page, because accommodation is arranged per package. Tell us the standard you’re after and we’ll confirm the options, including exact property names, in writing before anything is booked.

Can a luxury Egypt itinerary include Abu Simbel?

Yes, in two ways: by flight from Aswan when your days are tight, or as a private overland tour by road when you’d rather keep the timing flexible and see the desert on the way.

Can I combine a luxury Egypt tour with a Red Sea stay?

Our published programmes cover Cairo, Giza, Luxor, Aswan, Abu Simbel and the Nile, plus two shore tours from Safaga on the Red Sea coast. For anything beyond that, ask us directly in the form and we’ll tell you plainly what we can and can’t arrange.

Are luxury Egypt tours suitable for families with children?

Yes, and the adjustment is pacing rather than content. Fewer sites per day, more variety — camels, quad bikes, a motorboat to a Nubian village — and a private schedule you can shorten on the spot when energy runs out.

Are luxury Egypt honeymoon packages available?

Yes. We publish a dedicated luxury honeymoon collection you can build from, and we’re glad to shape a route specifically around a couple’s first trip together — a dawn balloon, a temple after dark and unhurried days on the river tend to do the rest.

How far in advance should I book a luxury Egypt tour?

Earlier is better, particularly for Nile cruise cabins and balloon flights in the busier months. Enquire as soon as your dates firm up and we’ll tell you what’s realistically available rather than holding something we can’t confirm.

Are visas, airport transfers, entrance fees and meals included?

These are confirmed per package rather than assumed across all of them. When we send your written breakdown, each of those items is either listed as included or listed as excluded — no vague middle ground.

Can I customise a private luxury Egypt itinerary?

Yes, and nearly everyone does. Every tour here works as a building block, so the order, the length and the contents are all adjustable. That’s what a tailor-made Egypt tour means in practice rather than in marketing.

Is Egypt suitable for private, guided luxury travel?

It’s how the majority of our travellers see the country — their own guide, driver and vehicle from arrival to departure, which is also what keeps the days flexible. If you have specific questions about a particular route or site, ask us in the form and you’ll get a direct answer.

Next step

Tell us the dates. We’ll do the rest in writing.

Fill in the enquiry form with your travel window, how many days you have, who’s coming and the tours on this page you’d hate to miss. We’ll reply with what’s available, what each day involves and what we’d honestly recommend for the time you’ve actually got. No obligation, no pressure — just a proper answer from people who arrange these routes every week. Egypt has waited a long time for you. Your annual leave is considerably less patient.
