Think of any luxury Egypt vacation as three layers stacked on top of each other.

The Nile decision
Luxury Nile cruise Egypt: three nights or four?
This is where a luxury Egypt holiday stops being a series of hotel stays and becomes a journey. We sail the Nile in both directions, and the direction genuinely changes the shape of your trip.
The 4-night Nile cruise sails Luxor to Aswan — southbound, four nights on board. That extra night is the difference between seeing the river and actually settling into it. It suits trips that finish in the south, or that continue on to Abu Simbel.
The 3-night Nile cruise sails Aswan to Luxor — northbound, three nights on board. The northbound sailing moves faster and slots neatly into shorter itineraries, so it works well if you are flying home from Luxor or heading back up to Cairo.
Either way the appeal is the same, and it is a wonderfully practical one: you unpack once. No repacking between Luxor and Aswan, no second hotel check-in, no 5am transfer with a suitcase. The scenery moves and you don’t.

Cairo and Giza: where every luxury Egypt vacation starts
Almost every luxury Egypt itinerary opens here, and with good reason. The greatest concentration of what you came to see sits within an hour of the city, which means your first full day can be the biggest one of the whole trip.
A quiet piece of advice from us, freely given: Dahshur and Saqqara are badly underrated. Most first-time visitors do Giza and move on. But standing at the Bent Pyramid with almost nobody else around gives you something Giza simply cannot — silence. If your trip has room for one extra Cairo day, that is where we would spend it.
Cairo also rewards travellers who like their history layered. The Egyptian Museum, the Citadel, the Coptic quarter and the older Islamic streets are all part of the same city, and a private guide is what turns that from a blur of names into a story you can follow.

Luxor: the world’s largest open-air museum
Luxor is where a luxury trip to Egypt gets serious. The temple density here is almost unfair. You can spend a morning at Luxor Temple, an afternoon in the Valley of the Kings, and still feel you have only opened the first chapter.
If you take only one piece of practical advice from this page, make it this one: book the balloon for a morning with nothing scheduled before 11am. It launches early, in the dark. Afterwards you will want breakfast and a slow start, not a temple.
Luxor is also where the difference between a private trip and a group trip becomes obvious. Tombs are narrow, the light is unforgiving by midday, and the ability to say “let’s go back and come out again at four” is worth more than any brochure adjective.

Aswan and Abu Simbel: the southern end of the journey
Aswan changes the tempo. The river widens, granite islands appear, and the whole trip slows down in a way most travellers find they needed without ever having asked for it. This is the stretch people describe as their favourite, usually with some surprise in their voice.
