4-Night Nile Cruise from Luxor to Aswan (4 Nights / 5 Days)
The 4-Night Nile Cruise from Luxor to Aswan sails upstream from Luxor to Aswan. That’s the opposite direction to the more common route, so it suits travellers already based in Luxor. It also pairs nicely with a few extra nights in town beforehand.
The itinerary, day by day:
- Day 1, Luxor: You board in Luxor and settle into your cabin. After lunch, your Egyptologist takes you through Karnak Temple and Luxor Temple, then dinner is on board.
- Day 2, Luxor West Bank: You visit the Valley of the Kings and selected open royal tombs, then Hatshepsut Temple and a pause at the Colossi of Memnon.
- Day 3, Edfu and Kom Ombo: You see the Temple of Horus at Edfu, then sail on to Kom Ombo for its unusual double temple and Crocodile Museum.

3 Nights Nile Cruise from Aswan to Luxor (3 Nights / 4 Days)
The 3 Nights Nile Cruise from Aswan to Luxor sails downstream, with the current, and finishes in Luxor. It’s ideal if you want to end your trip on either bank of ancient Thebes.
The itinerary, day by day:
- Day 1, Aswan: Your guide meets you in Aswan for the High Dam and the Unfinished Obelisk. You then board, have lunch, and cross by motorboat to Philae Temple on Agilkia Island. Dinner is on board, moored in Aswan.
- Day 2, Aswan to Edfu: A free morning in Aswan, with the optional Abu Simbel flight available. The ship sails north to Kom Ombo, where one half of the temple honours the crocodile god Sobek and the other the falcon god Horus. Tea on the sun deck, then overnight near Edfu.
- Day 3, Edfu to Luxor: A horse-drawn carriage takes you to the Temple of Horus, Egypt’s best-preserved temple. You sail on through Esna, reach Luxor by evening, and visit Karnak Temple and Luxor Temple.

Arriving by cruise ship on the Red Sea? Luxor is about 230 km from Safaga Port, roughly three hours each way by road across the Eastern Desert. We offer two ways to make that trip, alongside our other shore excursions.

The Safaga Port to Luxor 2-Day Tour is our Luxor overnight tour package, and the overnight is the whole point. A day trip squeezes six hours of driving and every major site into one long day. Staying the night gives you Karnak lit up after dark, plus an early start at the Valley of the Kings before the day-trip coaches arrive from the coast.

The Full-Day Luxor Tour: East and West Banks is both banks in one day, and the best value of your time if you only have one day in Luxor.
Morning: the Colossi of Memnon, three open tombs in the Valley of the Kings, and the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut.
Afternoon: lunch at a local restaurant, then Karnak Temple (gateways, the Great Hypostyle Hall, obelisks and the Sacred Lake). The day ends at Luxor Temple, built principally by Amenhotep III and expanded by Ramses II.

It covers three open tombs in the Valley of the Kings, then the three-terraced temple of Hatshepsut, the only woman who ruled as pharaoh in her own right. It finishes with a brief photo stop at the two eighteen-metre Colossi of Memnon.

A note on tombs: Egypt’s antiquities authority decides which tombs open on any given day. Your guide confirms the options on arrival, and any operator promising named tombs months ahead is overpromising.

What is included in a typical Luxor travel package?
With us, nearly every Luxor package includes private air-conditioned transport, a licensed Egyptologist guide, bottled water, and taxes and service charges. Most day tours also include standard entrance fees and lunch. Cruise packages add a cabin and full board, while the Safaga overnight tour adds a 5-star hotel night. The exact list sits under each package above.
What is the best time of year to book a Luxor tour package?
For Luxor, we recommend October to April. If you’re travelling in winter (December to February), bring a layer for cool desert mornings. In summer, keep water close on the West Bank.
How many days do I need for a good Luxor package tour?
We generally suggest 2 to 4 days in Luxor. Most private itineraries work well with 2 to 3 days, then connect to another destination. Short on time? The full-day East and West Banks tour covers the essentials in about eight hours.
Are Luxor travel packages suitable for families with children?
Yes. Because every tour is private, the pace is yours, and we can adjust it for children or seniors. Keep in mind that the Valley of the Kings involves sloped ramps and some steps, and temple grounds are uneven. Mention any mobility needs when you enquire, and we’ll plan around them.
What is the difference between private and group Luxor tour packages?
We don’t run group departures. Every published itinerary is private: your own guide, your own vehicle, no waiting for other passengers. In the Valley of the Kings, that matters, because group tours lose time at ticket gates and moving as a pack. Do Luxor packages usually include flights from Cairo or Hurghada?
Our Day Trip from Cairo to Luxor by Flight includes return Cairo–Luxor flights, meet-and-assist at Luxor Airport and transfers in Cairo. From the Red Sea, our packages start at Safaga Port and travel to Luxor by private vehicle, about three hours each way.
Are entrance fees to temples and tombs included in Luxor packages?
Standard entrance fees to the listed sites are included on our day tours and the Safaga packages. The standard Valley of the Kings ticket covers three open tombs. Special tombs such as Tutankhamun’s, Seti I’s and Ramses VI’s always need a separate ticket. For cruise packages, confirm ticket details when you enquire.
Can I combine a Nile cruise with a Luxor travel package?
Absolutely. The 4-Night Cruise starts in Luxor, so it pairs well with extra nights in Luxor beforehand. The 3-Night Cruise ends in Luxor, so it pairs well with extra nights afterwards. We can also plan routes around Luxor, Aswan, domestic flights or private transfers.
Are hot air balloon rides over Luxor included in any packages?
The Luxor Hot-Air-Balloon Ride is a standalone private package. It’s also available as an optional add-on to the Safaga 2-Day Overnight Tour, the 3-Night Aswan to Luxor Cruise and the Cairo to Luxor Day Trip. Add-on prices are confirmed on request.
What should I look for when choosing the best Luxor travel package?
Check five things before you book any Luxor package, with us or anyone else. Private or shared: know whether your guide, vehicle or ship is exclusive to your party. Which tickets are standard: special tombs are never part of the standard fee, so ask how they’re handled. Which meals are covered: “lunch included” and “full board” are very different days. Does the timing fit your base: cruise passengers at Safaga need to know whether their ship stays overnight. Who do you contact on the day: a direct line to your planner beats a call centre.
