That last row is the whole argument, and also the whole risk. Egypt gives you more to look at than almost anywhere on the list, which is precisely why an unplanned Egypt honeymoon can turn into a nine-day march. Ours don’t, because we build the empty hours in on purpose — an afternoon in Aswan with nothing scheduled is not a gap in the itinerary, it’s a line item.

The route
Cairo, Luxor, Aswan — and what each one is for.
An Egypt honeymoon has three movements, and they have completely different jobs. Getting the order and the weighting right is most of the work.
Cairo and Giza: the arrival, and the adrenaline
You will land tired. Cairo doesn’t care, and that turns out to be a good thing. The plateau, the museums, the older Islamic and Coptic quarters and the pyramid fields south at Saqqara and Dahshur all sit within about an hour of each other, so the opening two or three days deliver an enormous amount before you take a single internal flight.
Our advice for couples specifically: don’t stack it. Two well-built private days in Cairo and Giza beat three rushed ones, and the desert-edge hour on the camel ride at Giza does more for the trip than a fourth museum. Then move south, because the honeymoon proper starts on the river.
Luxor: where couples quietly extend the trip
Luxor is the reason people phone us mid-honeymoon asking for another night. The temple density is close to unreasonable and it’s split across two banks — Karnak and Luxor Temple on the living East Bank, and the West Bank of royal tombs, mortuary temples and the workers’ village that built them.
For a honeymoon we’d shape it around three things rather than a checklist: the balloon before dawn, one properly guided morning in the Valley of the Kings, and a felucca at sunset with nothing after it. Everything else is optional, and the couples who treat it that way are the ones who come home rested.
Second-time visitors, or anyone who wants a day nobody else is having, should look at Dendera and Abydos — two of the best-preserved complexes in the country, and a long, quiet, rewarding drive.
Aswan: the gear change nobody warns you about
Something happens here. The river widens, granite islands split the current, and the pace drops without either of you deciding it should. Couples who reach Aswan on day seven of a busy route tend to look visibly relieved.
The classic day pairs Philae Temple, the High Dam and the Unfinished Obelisk. But for a honeymoon the two we’d protect are the evening one — the sound and light show at Philae, reached by motorboat after dark — and an afternoon out to a Nubian village by motorboat, which is colour and hospitality rather than more stone.
Abu Simbel sits south of here and is worth it: two colossal rock-cut temples that were cut apart and lifted to higher ground when the lake rose. We run it by flight when your days are tight and privately by road when you’d rather keep the clock loose.
The single most useful thing we can tell you
Protect one completely empty day, ideally in Aswan, and refuse to fill it. Every couple resists this at the planning stage and every couple thanks us for it afterwards. A honeymoon is not an efficiency exercise — and a private itinerary is the only format that lets you actually keep the promise.
Aswan is the only place in Egypt where doing nothing for an afternoon still counts as sightseeing.
Timing
When is the best time to book a luxury honeymoon package?
Two different questions hide inside that one, so let’s separate them. There’s when to travel, which is about heat and crowds, and when to book, which is about cruise cabins and balloon seats disappearing.

Are there affordable luxury honeymoon packages?
Yes — but not in the way the phrase is usually used. Here’s how the figure actually behaves, and the four levers that move it.
We don’t publish a headline price on this page, and we won’t invent a bracket to catch a search. The number moves with your dates, how many days you travel, which cruise direction you pick, which experiences you add and what’s available on the river that week. What we can be useful about is where the money goes, because that’s the part you can steer.
- Cruise length. The 3-night sailing covers the same stretch of river as the 4-night, more efficiently. The extra night is a luxury, and a real one — but it is a choice, not a requirement.
- Season. Travelling either side of the winter peak changes availability and pressure considerably. Autumn is the underrated window.
- Trip length. Days are the single biggest driver. Eight thoughtful days beat eleven rushed ones on every measure including cost.
- Add-ons. Abu Simbel by flight, the balloon, the evening shows. All optional, all priced upfront, none of them sold to you halfway through the trip.
