4. Karnak Temple and Luxor Temple
The afternoon moves to the East Bank. Karnak is a temple complex expanded by pharaoh after pharaoh across centuries; its hypostyle hall has 134 columns, the largest ever built in ancient Egypt.
Then Luxor Temple, closer to the modern city centre, with its pylons, courts and ceremonial spaces. The day gives you a balanced West Bank and East Bank structure — tombs of the dead in the morning, temples of the living in the afternoon.
5. Home to Cairo
