PRIVATE ASWAN DAY TOUR

Three landmarks. One private route. About four hours.

From the Unfinished Obelisk to the High Dam and the island temples of Philae, our Aswan day tour brings the city’s defining sights into one guided journey.

An Aswan day tour should show you more than a single monument. This private route does exactly that: an ancient granite quarry, the High Dam above Lake Nasser and the island temples of Philae, linked in about four hours by air-conditioned vehicle and a return motorboat journey to Agilkia Island.

At Egypt Luxury Trips, we arrange pickup from your Aswan hotel or Nile cruise, all entrance fees and a professional English-speaking guide, so you can move from the Unfinished Obelisk to the High Dam and Philae without organising each transfer yourself. The programme follows our Philae Temple, High Dam and Unfinished Obelisk tour.

Below you will find the stop-by-stop itinerary, what is included, photographs from the route, guest reviews, answers to common questions and an enquiry form.

What Makes This Aswan Sightseeing Tour Distinctive

The variety comes from the itinerary itself. At the Unfinished Obelisk, your attention turns to stone-cutting and ancient construction. At the High Dam, the discussion shifts to the modern Nile, irrigation and electricity generation. At Philae, you explore temple architecture and religious history in an island setting.

The route also combines two ways of travelling. A private vehicle connects the land-based stops, while a motorboat carries you to Philae and back. The crossing is part of the visit, giving the temple experience a different character from the earlier stops.

This is a focused Aswan half-day tour. Its approximately four-hour programme keeps the experience centred on the three principal attractions, with the additional monuments at Philae explored during the island visit.

The Nile at Aswan, where the land and river journeys of the day tour come together

From stone-cutting at the quarry to the engineering of the High Dam, then to the sacred island of Isis: one private route, three very different chapters.

Your Aswan Day Tour Itinerary

Seven stages make up the programme, from your hotel door to Philae and back again.

1. Pickup from Your Aswan Hotel or Nile Cruise

Your tour begins with collection from your hotel or Nile cruise in Aswan. From there, you travel by private air-conditioned vehicle to the first stop, with your professional English-speaking guide introducing the route ahead.

Close view of hewn granite stone with chisel marks, illustrating ancient Egyptian stone-cutting

2. Explore the Unfinished Obelisk

At the Unfinished Obelisk, your guide explains the stone-cutting techniques associated with the site and what it reveals about ancient construction methods. The obelisk is often cited as measuring around 42 metres, and it was left in the granite when a crack appeared.

This visit offers a different perspective from a completed temple. The focus is on how monumental stonework was produced, helping you consider the practical work behind the buildings and monuments encountered elsewhere in Egypt.

There is time for explanations, questions, photographs and short pauses before continuing by vehicle.

3. See the Aswan High Dam and Lake Nasser

The next stop brings you to the Aswan High Dam, where you can view Lake Nasser.

Your guide discusses the dam’s relationship with flood control, irrigation and electricity generation. The visit introduces the changes that affected Aswan and provides context for the rescue of Nubian monuments.

Within this itinerary, the High Dam connects the ancient sites with the modern landscape surrounding them. After the visit, you continue to the boat landing for Philae.

4. Travel by Motorboat to Agilkia Island

At the boat landing, you board a motorboat for the crossing to Agilkia Island.

Arriving across the water changes the pace of the tour. The road journey gives way to an island approach before you step ashore to explore Philae’s courts, colonnades and temple structures.

The return motorboat journey is included, so both crossings form part of the arranged itinerary.

5. Explore the Temple of Isis at Philae

The Temple of Isis is the central focus of your Philae Temple tour.

Accompanied by your professional English-speaking guide, you explore the architecture while learning about the worship of Isis, later additions to the complex and the relocation of Philae, when the temples were moved to Agilkia Island in the 1970s.

The guided visit connects the structures you see with the story of the site. You have opportunities to ask questions and take photographs as you move through the temple complex.

6. Discover the Temple of Hathor and Kiosk of Trajan

Beyond the Temple of Isis, your guide leads you to the Temple of Hathor and the Kiosk of Trajan, together with surrounding Ptolemaic and Roman structures.

These stops broaden the experience beyond the Temple of Isis. Rather than treating Philae as a single monument, the itinerary introduces several parts of the complex before you return to the boat.

7. Return to Your Hotel or Nile Cruise

After exploring Philae, you take the motorboat back from the island. Your private vehicle then transfers you to your Aswan hotel or Nile cruise, completing the approximately four-hour experience.
