A Journey That Connects the Sites Along the Route

River Nile and desert hills near Aswan seen on the Luxor Aswan day tour

This tour uses the journey south for sightseeing. Rather than traveling directly to Aswan, you stop at Edfu and Kom Ombo before continuing to the city’s listed attractions.

Your Egyptologist accompanies the touring programme, connecting the different sites through guided explanations. The day includes road travel, a motorboat crossing to Philae and a seated train journey back to Luxor.

It is an intensive itinerary. If you want to see Edfu, Kom Ombo and several Aswan attractions without adding an overnight stay, the programme brings those visits together in one substantial day.

Your Luxor Aswan Day Tour Itinerary

1. Early Pickup from Your Luxor Hotel

We collect you from your hotel in Luxor for an early departure in a private air-conditioned vehicle. Your English-speaking Egyptologist guide accompanies you as you travel south toward Edfu.

The early start supports a programme covering several destinations before your return to Luxor. Confirm your exact pickup time when arranging the tour.

2. Explore the Temple of Horus at Edfu

Your first major sightseeing stop is the Temple of Horus at Edfu. Explore its monumental entrance, courts, columned halls and sanctuary with your Egyptologist.

The visit introduces the temple’s architecture and religious setting before you continue farther south. After your guided exploration, return to your private vehicle for the journey to Kom Ombo. If you would like to spend longer at these two temples, see our Edfu and Kom Ombo temples tour from Luxor.

3. Visit Kom Ombo Temple and the Crocodile Museum

At Kom Ombo, explore the distinctive double temple associated with Sobek and Haroeris. Your guide explains its symmetrical arrangement and the religious associations reflected in its spaces and reliefs.

The itinerary also includes the nearby Crocodile Museum. After completing these visits, continue toward Aswan for the next part of your sightseeing programme.

4. Discover Aswan High Dam and the Unfinished Obelisk

In Aswan, visit the High Dam before continuing to the Unfinished Obelisk in its ancient quarry. These stops introduce two different aspects of the destination: the modern engineering project connected with the Nile and the remains of an enormous ancient stone-working undertaking.

Your guide provides context at both locations as the programme moves toward Philae. To explore these Aswan highlights at a slower pace, see our Aswan High Dam tour guide or our overview of Aswan tourist attractions.

5. Reach Philae Temple by Motorboat

Take the included motorboat journey to Agilkia Island to visit Philae Temple, primarily associated with the goddess Isis. The temple complex was relocated to this island and is part of the UNESCO World Heritage listing for the Nubian Monuments.

The island crossing adds a different setting to your day after the earlier road journey and temple visits. Explore the complex with your Egyptologist before taking the included return motorboat ride. If Aswan is your main focus, our Philae Temple, High Dam and Unfinished Obelisk tour covers the same Aswan sites on a shorter programme.

6. Lunch and Return to Luxor by Train

Lunch at a local restaurant is included during the day, along with bottled water.

After the sightseeing programme, we transfer you to Aswan railway station for your first-class seated train journey to Luxor. The supplied programme describes this rail journey as approximately three hours; confirm the service arrangements for your travel date.

On arrival in Luxor, your final transfer takes you back to your hotel.
